FTP - File Transfer Protocol

In order to transfer files, folders, images, videos, audios etc from your computer to your hosting account, you need a piece of software called FTP Software. We personally use Smart FTP

You connect to your hosting account using the password and username (plus the correct website address) that you were given by your hosting provider.

Then you can upload files either to private folders you create, or to Public Folder (usually called Root or Public_HTML). Then your files can be seen on the World Wide Web.

If you design a website, be sure to have the first page you wish people to visit either index.html or index.php if you use PHP as the language.

The default if you have both on your hosting account will be index.html (some people use .htm). So if you do have both, then the .php file would not appear to the public.

We will have a link here soon showing you how to use Smart FTP to transfer files from your computer to the World Wide Web and your hosting account.

Please let us know if you need more help.
